More than likely, someone in your life or someone you know has been affected by cancer.
In 2008, when I was just 10 years old, I lost my grandpa to cancer. When he passed away, my grandpa no longer looked like my grandpa. Cancer completely overtook him. This disease didn’t just destroy my grandpa, it destroyed my family too. Losing him at such a young age was hard for all of us. I never really understood what was going on. I realized he was sick, but I never thought that he could be here one day and gone the next. Since he passed away so young, he never got the chance to see any of his grandchildren graduate. Have you ever felt an emptiness in your heart that you’re not sure how to fill? I’ve felt it many times after coming here to Findlay. I’ve had moments when I’ve felt I am all alone. In those moments, my thoughts go to my friends back home who loved me every day of my life. They made me feel protected and so special. In coming to Findlay, I worried that I wouldn’t have friends because I am different from so many other UF students. But I can proudly say that I do have friends now. If I can do it, then you can do it too, trust me! I believe if you want something, then the universe also tries to get that thing to you. It’s walking on that path every day.

Miracle Network Dance Marathon. A year ago, those four words didn’t mean much to me at all. Today, those words ignite a fire inside of me and have ultimately changed my life.
Dance Marathon is a movement that has taken over the nation. In 1991, this movement began at Indiana University when a fellow soon-to-be classmate, Ryan White, passed away from HIV/AIDS. The university decided to come together and raise money for their local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital. Since then, about 350 more schools have started dance marathon programs and over $135 million has been raised for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals! Every 60 seconds, 62 children enter a CMN hospital, and with the money that we raise, we can help provide state-of-the-art equipment the hospitals need, buy toys for their play rooms, and even refurbish some of the rooms in the … Read More »
